Football is more than kicking a ball around a field. It is a technical sport which requires players to move swiftly, pass accurately and make rapid decisions.

At AthleanAcademy, we realise a great player is not defined by their natural talent, but by their attention to detail of simple movements, awareness on and off the ball, and determination and dedication.

For this reason, each session is designed to improve the player's ability to perform the game fundamentals, through the use of challenging drills and match realistic situations.

We provide technical training in both 1 on 1 and team training settings. Our sessions are tailored to accommodate all players, from grassroot to elite level.

Strength & Conditioning

Strength and Conditioning (S&C) is an essential, yet under appreciated, aspect of professional football. It is vital for enhancing an individual's robustness as a player, whether that be improving ability to accelerate and decelerate, increasing agility or effectively hold off an opponent. ​
​
S&C practically applies the principles of sports science to improve an individual's movement quality. This is achieved by regular functional movement screening, in-gym and on field sessions and athletic testing.
​
AthleanAcademy is dedicated to incorporating Strength and Conditioning into a player's training routine. By engaging with S&C practices, players will not only experience benefits on the pitch, but in everyday life also.

The coaches at AthleanAcademy have an extensive background in Strength and Conditioning and Sport Science, so whether you are new to lifting or a professional, we have got your back (literally).

Rehabilitation
& RECOVERY
Unfortunately, injury is a common occurrence throughout most athlete's careers. Whilst we train to avoid such instances, it is important to have the resources to facilitate healthy and sustainable recovery when it occurs.
​
Rehabilitation is crucial for players not only looking to recover from an injury, but to return to play fitter and stronger. Through the use of careful strapping and appropriate training techniques, the recovery process can be accelerated.
​
Our coaches at AthleanAcademy can provide injury-specific recovery training sessions. These sessions will include a series of slow movement patterns, mobility drills and light aerobic exercises, to aid the rehabilitation process.
​
Rehabilitation and recovery sessions can be delivered on a 1 on 1, small group or team basis.
​

ELITE
TRAINING

AthleanAcademy offers an Elite Training service for advanced players. These players may play for an academy or at a professional level.
​
Player position is at the forefront of our Elite Training design. We utilise the player's position to tailor drills that strengthen both physical and mental resilience on and off the field.
​
Throughout each session, athletes are monitored using sport specialist software. This ensures players receive accurate feedback, which is proactively used to encourage progressive overload.
​
Past AthleanAcademy elite athletes have hailed from Chelsea, Fulham and Leyton Orient academies.

off-season & Pre-season
training

A common misconception is that football is only practiced during the season. However, athletic development can occur all year round.
​
Off-Season is the ideal time to refine and develop individual weaknesses. Using a range of strength and speed training methods, athletes can develop the skills that are neglected during the season.
​
Pre-Season training can be valuable for preparing athletes for the season ahead. This time is best utilised honing physical qualities and skills that are essential for success on the pitch.
​
During the Off and Pre-Season, we carefully test and monitor athletes to ensure they are peaking and progressing at a desirable rate. Our goal is to ensure that athletes are prepared for the intensity of the season and can meet the physical requirements of a game.

Off and Pre-Season training can be provided interchangeably, giving you the flexibility to maximise your time as you wish.

SPORTS
NUTRITION

Sports Nutrition is essential for developing a well rounded athlete, whether you are an elite player looking to optimise your performance or a grassroot player aspiring to become a pro.
Our Sports Nutrition team offer a variety of strategies to assist and support players at different stages throughout their career.
​
Nutrition at AthleanAcademy is headed by Susana Melendéz, a registered Dietitian-Nutritionist and current Head of Sports Nutrition at Detroit Tigers. Her experience as a Division 1 athlete and central midfielder for the Mexican National Team means that she personally understands the requirements of a professional footballer. Her credentials include Assistant Director of Nutrition for the New York Mets and Nutrition Coach for RGVFC in Texas.

Susana and Alfie also offer a 5 week sport nutrition webinar series. Weekly sessions will provide athletes with additional knowledge and supplementary advice on a range of topics, including training and pre-match nutrition, nutrition for effective recovery and the importance of hydration.
