WHAT TO EXPECT

At AthleanAcademy, athletes can access both Off-Season, and Pre-Season training to maintain year-long development.

Off-Season Training occurs as a precursor to Pre-Season Training and is the ideal time for athletes to focus on technique. In particular, content that is not learned throughout the season is prioritised, such as the biomechanics of sprinting. Other Strength and Conditioning techniques to improve overall performance will be examined. As Pre-Season training is renowned for its high intensity, we are deliberately building volume on legs and working on other physical qualities that are overlooked during the season. It is for this reason that during the Off-Season we embrace athlete fatigue, as this indicates that the muscles may be building tolerance to contribute towards successful play during the season.

Pre-Season accounts for the weeks prior to the football season. This is when training volume begins to increase and players can reacclimatise to the longer sessions that are common during the season. Pre-Season sessions will occur both on the field and in the gym. On the field, we cover technical field work, such as high tempo running with short rest times. In the gym, athletes can expect to develop body strength, training with lower repetitions and a heavier load. An emphasis is placed on mirroring football movements, such as jumping, changing direction whilst landing and decelerating- all of which, when done incorrectly, result in common and frequent injury. Overall, Pre-Season Training is a useful tool for improving player tolerance to the demanding season ahead.
Athletes can engage with Off-Season and Pre-Season Training irrespectively, and are not required to attend one to access the other
